Excerpt 4

The creak of a rocking chair sounded to the tick of the clock in the room. A sinister mood hung in the air as the creaking grew faster and faster. A lone figure sat in it, tall and lean. Shadows hung heavy on his face, a darkness caused by more than light (or the lack of it) Standing up, he paced back and forth, turning something over and over in his hands. A slash of moonlight fell on him, the black cloth and high collar of his robes gave the immediate impression of a holy father. All this was ruined however by the terrifying evil in the man's eyes and the object he twirled in his hands. A sinister razor, black with the blood of dozens of victims and yet, still showing a doubtlessly fatal edge.

Old Kree looked out the balcony and inhaled, taking in the scents in the air.
'Sixty live ones,' he laughed to himself. 'Their doing a better job than me,' he ran his razor down his cheek, looking at the bed. 'Hey, dear.. not waking up for the fun?' cackled Kree, insane, as he stared the dead body of a woman, mutilated, covered in the parts of what remained of her family.
'Oh yes, its time for a lil killin spree.'

The door opened and slammed shut, the mad priest off to join the chaos. The golden lettering glinted, room 11-7. Three frightened teens had caught the nose of old man Kree.

**

Seven floors above, Jhun gazed at his friends, worry evident on his face. Fear was not an emotion he usually held for long, not so for the others. Mike and Dare looked pale, whiter than the sheets they sat on. The rest were up by then, but still oblivious to what the trio had seen.

'Weih, wassup?' KF quipped, annoyed at the disturbance to his slumber. The wiry teen jumped to his feet and did a little jig, the room was cold. He looked to the three, noticing something amiss, he quieted down. 'Where's Shaun and the others,' guessing their worries, half correct.

'I don't know,' Jhun muttered, barely audible. His mind was a jumble, the image of the grotesque being etched clearly in his memories.

By then, the other two in the room had risen and gave questioning looks to Jhun, seeking answers. The girls had sensed the mood immediately and patiently waited for an explanation. One of them at least.

'Oi, faster tell us what happened la!' demanded Charmaine, always quick to flare up.

Denise merely stretched and listened, unusually alert. Dare fidgeted with the fluorecent lamp he had brought, the only source of light they had. Mike stood by the curtains, peering out, as if on guard.

Jhun as usual, took the lead. 'Something's wrong with the place.' He raised a hand to silence the retort from Charmaine before she could even make it. 'All i know is, outside, its pitch black dark,' Mike nodded his confirmation from the balcony. 'We can't reach Shaun and the other two, phones dead, everything else in the hotel as well, no electric it seems.' He took in a deep breath, preparing himself to reveal the next in their list of problems. 'And there are dead bodies falling from above us, Mike and Dare saw it too.' He chose not to reveal the nature or liveliness of the beings, for now.

The shock on the faces of the three uninformed were evident. KF's face turned from questioning, to understanding and to wide eyed horror in the the space of a second. Charmaine started to laugh, only to gasp as he realized that Jhun wasn't up to any sort of joke. Denise was the only one not catching on.

'Wha?' she asked, cocking her head sideways.

'Fucking dead bodies from the bloody rooftop and Shaun,Vi and Kev missing dammit!' shouted Dare, losing his calm. His eyes were wild with panic, and his hands worked the blankets beneath him into knots. He had known the first two boys since they were eight, 'friends' was a weak word to the bond they shared. He calmed down as Mike's hand landed on his shoulder, gentle but firm.

'Relax, we'll find em okay?' Mike was always optimistic, and kept a cool head when he was needed. 'Shaun can take care of the other two if there's trouble, and Vi'll keep them from doing anything stupid, it's fine,' a half smile crept up his face, but it only hung for a second, the expression not fitting for their current predicament.

He looked to Jhun for guidance. Seeing and understanding the meaning in his eyes, he nodded.

'We're looking for em,' said Jhun, standing up, he flipped on the torchlight on his cellphone. The sight was almost heroic, or corny if Shaun was here to observe. The charisma he showed at that moment perked up his friends however and they immediately nodded their agreement. Walking over to the door, he opened it wide.

The six youths made their way into the darkness, determined to find their friends and of course, get the hell out of here after.
